Katitzi (Series) | Koja Agency

Grattis till Elmira Rye Danjelsen i ES24 som vann ”Den perfekta bokgåvan”! Här är tipset på den perfekta julklappen i bokform.

”Katitzi is an autobiography by Katarina Taikon written in 1970. It’s about a little roma girl called Katitzi. She lives in Sweden during WW2 with her father, siblings and her stepmom. It’s written in several parts taking place in Katitizi’s life from age 7 to her older teenage years.

We follow Katitzi through her life as she faces racism, sexism and persecution, in her home, in the streets and in her everyday life. Still, she can’t help but see everything good. Her imagination and toughness carry her through every hard thing she faces. Her big losses and her small, meaningful wins.

All books have red covers with gold text and Katitzi written in large letters on the front. It’s as beautiful on the outside as the inside.

Katitzi is easy to read and gives a whole new perspective of everything you thought you knew about this country, for example the amount of racism in Sweden during this time. Even though the first one is originally a children’s book the series evolves into a deeper theme as Katitzi grows older. My opinion is that Katitzi fits everyone. Your neighbor might love it, or maybe your sibling or dad. It’s supposed to be enjoyed by all ages. You get a dark meaningful underlaying theme but still get to enjoy a book written from a child’s innocent perspective.

Honorable mention is that, from 2025 Katitzi is part of the “Swedish culture canon” along with 100 other books that represent extra significant parts of the Swedish culture.”
